Wauneta Receives "Good Neighbor Award"
On November 19, 2010, Community volunteers and leaders celebrated their efforts at successfully promoting and encouraging economic and community development as part of the 47th Annual Nebraska Community Improvement Program (NCIP) awards banquet in Kearney.
NCIP awards reflect outstanding community and ecomonic development projects. The GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD, which is presented to a community that has assisted, supported and encouraged a neighboring community, went to Wauneta. They were nominated by the City of Imperial. After Imperial's swimming pool closed for repairs, Wauneta offered its pool as a practice facility for Imperial's summer swim team and for swim meets. The Village also employed lifeguards from Imperial to staff the pool.
Wauneta would like to thank Imperial for the nomination and note that we were only reciprocating hospitality. Imperial has always been willing to help us out. They have set a great example of being a Good Neighbor. This summer worked out great for Wauneta as well as Imperial. When we were short on lifeguards, some Imperial's guards were able to work at our pool.
